Former Decorah attorney agrees to plead guilty to five criminal charges

Former Decorah attorney David Strand has accepted a plea agreement under which he will plead "guilty" to five criminal charges.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Strand would enter guilty pleas to four counts of first degree theft and one count of third degree theft.  The five criminal charges are:

1)  Strand is accused of misappropriating over $10,000 from the Shiloh Deal estate from July 20, 2009 through June 1, 2010.  The first degree theft charge is a class C felony.

2)  Strand is accused of misappropriating over $10,000 from the Shiloh Deal estate from October 28, 2010 through February 28, 2011--a Class C felony.

3)  Strand is accused of taking more than $10,000 from Dennis Steinlage on or around April 4, 2012--a Class C felony.

4)  Strand is accused of taking over $10,000 from Darlyne Hackman from April 12th through April 23rd of 2013.  The first degree theft charges is a class C felony.

5)  Strand is accused of disposing of estate property worth less than $1,000 on September 12th, 2012.  The third degree theft charge is an aggravated misdemeanor.

In exchange for Strand's guilty pleas to the five charges, prosecutors have agreed to recommend to the judge that any sentences imposed on the first three criminal charges would be served concurrently.

Strand will be back in court December 10th, when the results of a presentence investigation will be disclosed.
