NEICAC launches program to help people buy a car to get to work

Northeast Iowa Community Action is launching a new transportation program: "Wheels For Work."  The program will help eligible families and individuals purchase an affordable and dependable vehicle. The program offers zero percent interest loans to people who are working and meet eligibility requirements.

The application process and eligibility requirements for the program are available on-line at www.neicac.org and clicking on "Wheels for Work".

Karn Pankow, the Mobility Manager working for Community Action's Public Transit program says, "In rural areas like Northeast Iowa, most people have to make a fairly significant daily commute for work. Community Action has a Public Transit program that people can use to get to and from work, but it isn't always an affordable option. People throughout the area are going in different directions, at different times of the day – making it hard for public transit to meet everyone's transportation needs in a cost effective way. The new Wheels for Work program has been created to help deal with this affordability gap in a creative and innovative way."
