The Winneshiek County Planning and Zoning Commission has tabled any action on a request to allow cabins as permitted use on property zoning for campgrounds.
The request was made by Chimney Rock Campground owner Deb Keefe, who has added three cabins to her campground. County Zoning Administrator Tony Phillips asked county supervisors to force Keefe to remove the cabins, but supervisors wanted to hear from the Planning and Zoning Commission first.
The Planning & Zoning Commission decided that changes to the county's zoning ordinance should not be made on a piecemeal basis. It had previously requested permission from county supervisors to hire a consultant for the work. The Planning and Zoning Department is in the middle of getting bids on such a project.
In the meantime, the status quo prevails--Keefe has not won her request to allow cabins on campground property, but the county is not forcing her to remove the cabins, either.
