The City of Decorah will not be sending out letters to its residents endorsing the sewer line service warranty program offered by the National League of Cities.
The decision came after Mayor Don Arendt told city council members, "I will NOT sign the letter." The mayor said he did not want to personally endorse the program and felt like he was being used to boost sales. City council member Rachel Vagts agreed that the city should not be used as a tool to market the sewer line warranty program.
Decorah resident Sonja Sola appeared before the city council to discuss the problems she has had since entering the sewer line service warranty program.
City council members briefly discussed sending out a letter about the program under the signature of the city council instead of the mayor, but no one made a motion to that effect, so the issue died.
