The Decorah City Council has agreed to purchase a new Rosenbauer brand fire truck from Heiman, Incorporated of Lyons, South Dakota for $669,689.
The action was taken despite the fact that the bid was not the lowest bid. But Decorah Fire Department spokesperson Steve Vanden Brink noted that a $659,919 bid from Feld Fire of Carroll, Iowa "really doesn't meet what we were looking for," noting the company's bid had 27 exceptions.
Monday night's approval by the Decorah City Council must also be approved by the Rural Fire Association, which is paying half the cost of the fire truck. The Rural Fire Association board will meet next Tuesday, October 15th.
