The School Administrators of Iowa organization has announced it will recognize Decorah School Superintendent Mike Haluska at the organization's awards reception next August.

Haluska was one of three finalists for the organization's 2013-14 Iowa Superintendent of the Year award.

"SAI is pleased to recognize leaders who are dedicated to advancing student achievement by providing students a quality education," said Dan Smith, the association's executive director.

Haluska has been superintendent for the district since 2007.  Before coming to Decorah, he was superintendent at Jefferson-Scranton Community School District.  He received his bachelor's degree in History Education from Northeast Missouri State University, a master's degree in Secondary Administration and his superintendent certification from the University of Northern Iowa.

Haluska serves on the Iowa Association of School Boards Administrative Advisory Council, SAI Executive Leaders board, Decorah Rotary Board as immediate past-president and Winneshiek County Public Health Board as president. He received the IASB Superintendent's Award of Honor in 2011 and 2012.
