The Decorah chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) has announced plans to hold a candidate forum featuring candidates for Decorah mayor and city council. The forum will take place at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 17th, in room 206 of Luther College's Valders Hall.
Mayor candidates Don Arendt (incumbent) and Jim McIntosh have been invited to attend, as have city council candidates Randy Schissel and Jarrad Walter for Ward 1; Jody Niess (unopposed incumbent) in Ward 2; Paul Wanless (unopposed incumbent) in Ward 3; Matthew Gausman and Bill Wagner in Ward 4; Marion Pruitt-Jefferson and Chuck Lore in Ward 5; and Gary Rustad (incumbent and unopposed) in an at-large district.
Due to ward boundary changes following the 2010 census, all city council positions except one At-Large position are up for election.
Candidates will give a brief introduction of their backgrounds, qualifications and reasons for seeking office. Each will then respond to written questions from the audience, screened by a committee of the sponsors. All questions will be asked by the moderator Cathryn Baldner.
There is no cost to attend and the public is welcome. Voter registration and absentee ballot requests will be available at the forum site.
KDEC 1240 AM radio will record the forum and rebroadcast it on Tuesday, October 22nd at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, October 29th at 12:15 p.m.
