Would you like to talk with tourists? The Winneshiek County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce are seeking volunteers who will answer questions about many topics, including lodging, restaurants and tourist attractions.
"Our office is experiencing a substantial increase of visitors," explained Winneshiek County Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Brenda Luzum. "We have never experienced this volume of in-office traffic, phone calls and brochure requests ever before." Luzum says the new Trout Run Trail is one big cause of the increase in tourism traffic, as is the popularity of the eagle's nest.
The Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce and the Winneshiek County Convention and Visitors Bureau hope to expand the number of volunteers on hand at the Visitors Center from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays. If more volunteers come forward, operating hours of the Visitor Center may be expanded to include Thursday and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
A volunteer application form is available to anyone interested in serving as a Tourism Ambassador. Please call (563) 382-2023 or stop by the Chamber and Visitor's Center at 507 West Water Street for more information.
