Although no record high temperatures were set in Decorah during September, the daily average temperature was four degrees higher than normal.

Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says temperatures averaged 65.9 degrees, which made September of 2013 the 12th warmest September out of the 119 for which temperature records have been kept.

Bernatz says 21 days out of the 30 days in September had high temperatures above average.

September in Decorah was also dry, according to Bernatz.  The city received 1.63 inches of precipitation, which was 1.97 inches less than the average of 3.6 inches.  There were nine days with precipitation, which is average, but the highest 24-hour rainfall total was just 0.78 inches on September 15th.

Decorah has had 4 inches less of rainfall than normal in the last three months, but still has a precipitation surplus of 12.57 inches, thanks to the heavy rains that fell in May and June.
