The Decorah Genealogical Association is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. So Midge Kjome of the Genealogy Association spoke to members of the Decorah LIons Club recently in an effort to publicize the work of the group.
Kjome says the Genealogical Association maintains a genealogy research center, assists individuals and groups with genealogical research and collects and preserves resources on ancestors for their descendants. The group also collects and publishes materials in genealogy research and exchanges information with other genealogical organizations.
The Association's Research Center is in the lower level of the Decorah Public Library. There are volunteers available to assist anyone doing genealogical research, Monday through Friday from 10 am until 4 pm. Decorah newspapers dating from 1860 are available on microfilm. The Association is also developing a file of Winneshiek County residents who have served in the military.
