Agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrived in Waucoma Wednesday to serve federal search warrants in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation.
Federal officials released the following statement: "Special agents with ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), in cooperation with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, are executing federal search warrants in Waucoma, Iowa, as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. Since this is an ongoing criminal investigation, no further details of this case can be discussed at this time. Further inquiries about this case can be addressed to the U.S. Attorney's Office in for the Northern District of Iowa."
There was no immediate comment on whether the immigration raid was connected to the case of two Ossian residents who were arrested earlier in connection with an incident in Waucoma. 23-year-old Rodrigo Sandoval Estrada and 35-year-old Holly Ann Yonkovic of Ossian were arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping and sexual abuse of a 13-year-old Waucoma girl.
Estrada had been living under the identity of 20-year-old Ramon Marcus Perez. At the time of his arrest, Fayette County authorities said "This is an ongoing investigation and more charges will be filed in multiple jurisdictions as a result."
