Flu shot season already?

Posted: Mon, Sep 23, 2013 4:44 PM

Flu shot season is here.

Winneshiek Medical Center will be holding Community Flu Clinics beginning October 1st and is already making appointments for patients to receive flu shots from their health care providers.

Anyone age nine or older may receive the influenza vaccine at the Walk-In Community Flu Clinics. Only the injection form of the vaccine will be given at these clinics.  The vaccination cost at the Community Flu Clinics is $25 and is payable at the time of service.  WMC will accept cash, check, credit card or Medicare cards at the Community Flu Clinic.  No private insurance cards or Medicare Advantage Plans will be accepted to cover the cost.  No appointments are needed.

Community flu clinics at the hospital in Decorah will be held inside the hospital's main entrance on the north side of the medical center.  Clinics are scheduled for Tuesday, October 1st, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.; Wednesday, October 2nd, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.; Friday, October 4th from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., including a free diabetes screening involving a blood glucose check (fasting preferred), BMI, weight, height, waist circumference, and blood pressure; Tuesday, October 8th, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.; Wednesday, October 9th, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 p.m.; and Thursday, October 10th, from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

A community flu clinic will also be held at the Mabel Clinic at 114 Main Street South in Mabel, on Thursday, October 17th, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

If people cannot attend one of the community clinics, Winneshiek Medical Center offers the influenza vaccine at any time with a clinic appointment in Decorah.  Both injection and mist forms of the vaccine are available through an appointment with your health care provider.  Private insurance cards will be submitted for this service at the patient's request.  Call (563) 382-2911 to schedule an appointment.  Mabel Clinic will offer the influenza vaccine Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  Call (507) 493-5115 to schedule an appointment.
