St. Benedict School sixth graders took part in numerous environmental and educational activities on a recent two-day trip to EWALU near Strawberry Point.
Students took a nature hike, making observations of limestone formations including small caves, wildflowers (prairie), and signs of wildlife. They also visited Backbone State Park for canoeing and swimming. Students also studied the effects of Bernoulli's Principle, learning how wings produce lift allowing planes and helicopters are to fly.
Students were instructed on how to use and read a compass and then went on a scavenger hunt in small groups as part of an Orienteering course. A final class worked on team building, as students worked together to navigate a low ropes course.
