The Decorah Community School Board met Monday night to begin its new year. Recently re-elected board member Ron Fadness was elected Board President, and former president Melanie Tietz was elected vice-president. The old board adjourned as they recognized retiring board member Rick Valley. The new board convened, welcoming newly elected Cindy Schissel. In one of his first acts as new president, Fadness recognized Mike Haluska, who was one of three nominees by the School Administrators of Iowa for Superintendent of the Year.
The newly convened Board agreed to continue its meeting time of the second Monday of each month, 6:00 p.m.
In other business the Board appointed Ron Fadness to remain as the delegate to the Iowa Association of School Boards. The Board also heard reports regarding the finishing touches on the high school renovation; approved 28E agreements with St. Benedict's Preschool, Northeast Iowa Montessori, Nisse Preschool, Kinderhaus, and Sunflower Childcare for collaborative partnerships for the 4-year-old program; and approved the 2012-13 Treasurer's Report.
