Each year the Decorah Community School Shareholders Group assumes a task of current relevance to the schools. They met last week to review last year's work related to technology and a review of school testing programs. This year the group will tackle the issue of the John Cline and West Side facilities. In particular, they will closely review the report from StuXure Architects that was presented to the Board in May (story archived in decorahnews.com). That report detailed several options for the district to consider as it addresses the outdated and generally inadequate facilities used for Pre-K through second grade students.
Shareholders will meet with StruXture representatives in November and also tour the facilities. The goal is for the group to engage in a full evaluation and report back to the Board with a recommendation.
The Board fully supported this direction for the Shareholders, but did not need to take formal action to approve their work.
