The Carrie Lee renovations were never fully completed, but now the Decorah School Board has authorized Superintendent Haluska to move forward to obtain separate competitive quotes for the painting, carpeting, and seating for the auditorium. A second set of quotes will follow later for lighting and curtains. The competitive quotes are being done since a unified bid for the whole project is not realistic; and this approach will also encourage more local bids. Haluska hopes the first set of quotes can be ready next month and the entire project be completed by sometime in January.
The Decorah Community Schools Foundation hopes to raise money and provide $152K of the $250K project. The renovation will reduce seating from 455 to 400, but the new layout will be ADA accessible and provide much more spacious individual seats. It should also be another viable option for community use when a venue smaller than the high school is more appropriate.
