The Iowa Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers has named Trout Run Trail the 2013 Outstanding Civil Engineering Project.
The award was presented Thursday night at the association's annual conference at Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames.
The recognition is given to "an engineering project that demonstrates the greatest engineering skills, and represents the greatest contribution to civil engineering progress and mankind."
Judges consider the project's "contribution to the well‐being of people and communities, resourcefulness in planning and in solution of design problems, pioneering in the use of materials and methods, innovations in construction, consideration of impact on environment, unusual aspects and aesthetic values." A panel of five ASCE members conducts the judging.
