August was slightly warmer and drier than normal in August, according to Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz.

Bernatz says the temperature averaged 71.1 degrees during August—0.8 degrees warmer than average.  Out of 120 August for which temperatures were kept in Decorah, 43 were warmer and 76 were cooler than this August.

Decorah received 3.48 inches of rain during August.  Compared with the rest of Iowa, that total was pretty good, but it was still 0.47 inches less than average for August.  Decorah received 1.53 inches of rain on August 5th and measurable precipitation on six other days.  Compared with August of 2013, 60 Augusts were wetter and 60 Augusts were drier.

But for the last three months, Decorah has received 4.28 inches of rain more than average.  For the past 12 months, that figure is 14.92 inches more than average.
