Winneshiek Medical Center welcomes new pathologist

A new pathologist has joined the staff at Winneshiek Medical Center.

Dr. Anna Ryan an anatomic and clinical pathologist who has begun serving as Winneshiek Medical Center's Laboratory Medical Director as well as the Laboratory Medical Director for Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.  A pathologist is a medical doctor who examines tissues from biopsies and lab tests on body fluids, and interprets the results to assist in a patient's diagnosis and treatment.  Dr. Ryan replaced long-time Winneshiek Medical Center pathologist Dr. Harold Amsbaugh, who retired.

Dr. Ryan received her Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, and her medical degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago.  She completed an internship in internal medicine at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, and her residency in pathology at Rush-Medical Center in Chicago.  She comes to Winneshiek Medical Center from a private pathology service in Ottumwa, Iowa.  Dr. Ryan is board certified by the American Board of Pathology.
