The big fish:
Decorah resident David Strom recently caught a brown trout that nearly set a state Iowa record. Strom was fishing in Trout Run when he reeled in a huge brownie. The trout weighed in at 14 pounds 10 ounces--just 6 ounces shy of the state record.
The good fish story:
Strom sent a smart phone picture of the trout to his aunt, Carolyn Fure of Decorah. She then volunteered to staff the Winneshiek County booth at the Iowa State Fair. One person came up to her at the booth and asked her if there was any good trout fishing in Winneshiek County.
Carolyn just pulled out her phone.
