Posted: Tue, Aug 13, 2013 6:43 AM

North Winneshiek students are meeting the Adequate Yearly Progress goals set by the federal government.

82.05 percent of the 3-5 graders were proficient in reading; 76.92 percent of the 3-5 graders were proficient in mathematics; 69.05 percent of the 6-8 graders were proficient in reading; and 80.95 percent of the 6-8 graders were proficient in mathematics.

Proficiency for NCLB means students who score in the 41st-99th percentile on the Iowa Assessments in reading, mathematics, and science.  A student who is not proficient would earn a score within the 1st-40th percentile.

North Winneshiek School Board members on Monday were also given the National Grade Equivalents for North Winn students.  The grade equivalent describes student performance in terms of grade level months.  For example, if a 5th grade student obtains a grade equivalent of 5.4 on the reading score, the student's score is compared to a student who is at a reading comprehension achievement level of 5th grade 4th month.
