Dump truck crashes into Upper Iowa River

Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputies say a dump truck crashed into the Upper Iowa River Monday afternoon near the Upper Dam.

29-year-old Michael Quick of Calmar lost control of the dump truck while driving on River Road.  The dump truck rolled down a steep embankment and came to rest on its side in the Upper Iowa River.  Quick was able to free himself from the dump truck.  He was taken to Winneshiek Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

The Sheriff's Department ticketed Quick for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.

Crews from Bruening Rock Products were able to remove the wreckage from the river using a large excavator.  The dump truck was a total loss.
