City council pay raise gets little support

Members of the Decorah City Council get paid $40 per meeting they attend.  But don't expect that pay to increase in the future.

Decorah Mayor Don Arendt has suggested it might be time to increase the pay of elected city officials.  He noted that the Waukon City Council members got paid $50 per meeting and Cresco City Council members get $75 per meeting.

But the proposal got a thumbs down from members of the city council.  While council member Carolyn Corbin said she would support a pay raise, five other city council members said they would oppose any pay raise.  City council member Paul Wanless said "There are better uses for the city's money."
