Members of Hannah Lee Chapter surround Emily Carter memorial as Becky McCabe presents information about Carter and the bronze plaque.

The Hannah Lee Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution has toured bronze plaques installed by the organization at three historically significant Northeast Iowa locations.

The plaque at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Winneshiek County near Festina  is located on a large boulder near the back of the cemetery.  It was placed in 1925 by the Waucoma Chapter of DAR and bears the inscription, "Johann Gaertner fought with Napoleon Bonaparte at Moscow and Waterloo".

The plaque at Dunham's Grove Cemetery southwest of West Union is marked by a tall red granite memorial, with the inscription "REAL DURGHTER" and the DAR symbol.
The plaque just north of Fayette at the site of the first log cabin built by white settlers in Fayette County is mounted on a boulder and has an inscription that reads, "This marks the site of the first cabin in Fayette County.  Here Franklin Wilcox built a home."

Hannah Lee Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution is chartered at West Union and includes members throughout northeast Iowa.  Chapter meetings are generally held at noon on the first Saturday of the month and alternate between West Union and Decorah locations.    The September 7th meeting will be held at noon at McCaffrey's Dolce Vita in Decorah.  Anyone interested in membership may contact a current member or visit the DAR website, www.DAR.org
