The U.S. District Attorney's Office for the Federal Court of Northern Iowa may be filing criminal charges against Cresco resident Daniel Wildman, who faces five criminal charges in Winneshiek County, including three counts of attempted murder.
Wildman's trial on those charges was supposed to start on Wednesday of these week. Instead, prosecutors will appear in Winneshiek County Court on Tuesday to ask that local criminal charges be dropped so their is no double jeopardy with Wildman also facing federal charges.
The U.S. District Attorney's Office in Cedar Rapids says it has no immediate comment on the case. However, the federal investigation has been assigned a file number, which often is a sign that charges are pending.
Wildman is accused of shooting a rifle towards three people on the lawn of a home in Calmar last November. He was taken into custody after being surrounded by police in a corn field in Ossian.
