NOrdic Fest is always held the last complete weekend in July because organizers did some research and discovered that is the weekend least likely to have measurable rain.
Maybe someone should have checked the thermometer as well! Actually, the coolest temperatures ever for Nordic Fest didn't hurt a bit and might have attracted the biggest crowd to ever watch a Nordic Fest Parade.
But it was a good idea to bring a jacket. The official high temperature in Decorah on Saturday was 61 degrees. Not only did that set a record for the lowest high temperature on a July 27th in the more than a century for which records have been kept, it tied the overall monthly record for July of 61 degrees set on July 23rd in 1992.
People attending the Nordic Fest enjoyed the cool temperatures, with many food booths running out of food by late Saturday afternoon.
In short, it was a good Nordic Fest for wearing a Norwegian sweater!
