The slide at the Decorah Municipal Swimming Pool is now 30 years old.
Decorah Parks and Recreation Board members have made the replacement of the slide one of their long range goals. Money has been set aside in previous park-rec budgets, with the reserve fund now at $114,000. That won't be enough money to pay for the new slide, but it's a beginning.
Members of the Parks Board are now discussing whether a consultant ought to be hired to analyze the remaining life expectancy of the existing slide and to make recommendations on the type of new slide that ought to be purchased. Parks Board members are especially interested in studying slides at other public pools, including those in Spring Grover, Minnesota and North Liberty, Iowa.
