Latest scam has callers using the actual names of local law enforcement officers

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department says it has received information of an attempted phone scam in which the caller uses the actual names of local law enforcement personnel in an attempt to defraud them of money.

The callers claim to be with an asset recovery service and claim they are working with local law enforcement officers.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department reminds the public to never give out personal financial information--especially over the telephone.
