A seven percent decline in revenues and a one percent increase in expenses was a bad combination for Winneshiek Medical Center in May. The result was a $197,551 operating loss for the hospital.
Contributing to the loss was a 45 percent decline in skilled patient days. Also contributing was the fact that 74 percent of revenues were used for salaries, benefits and professional fees.
On the other hand, the hospital now has almost 68 days worth of cash on hand--50 percent better than the figure from one year ago.
