More rain fell from January 1st through June 30th of this year than did in the first six months of any of the years for which weather records have been kept.
Decorah weather observer Richard Bernatz says Decorah received just over 33 inches of precipitation during that six month time period--17.19 inches more than average. 10.98 inches of rain fell in Decorah during June, after 10.35 inches of rain fell during May. It's the only time in the last 121 years there have been precipitation surpluses of 6 inches or more in back-to-back months.
There were 14 days in June with measurable precipitation in Decorah--including a five-day stretch that included the weekend of June 22nd which had 5.63 inches of precipitation. Decorah now has a precipitation excess of 12.47 inches over the last 12 months.
Temperatures were near normal in June, says Bernatz. The average temperature of 67.9 degrees was just 0.1 degree cooler than normal. 63 Junes have been warmer and 54 Junes have been cooler than June of 2013.
