Law enforcement agencies in Iowa will make sure motorists are buckling up

Decorah Police, Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputies and law enforcement officers throughout Iowa will be conducting "high visibility" enforcement starting Monday and running through Sunday, cracking down on traffic violators, especially those motorists and passengers who have not buckled up.

As of June 12th, 117 people had died in traffic accidents in Iowa.  37 of those fatalities involved people who were not using a seat belt.

Research says using a seat belt improves your chances of surviving a crash by 50 percent.

Police officers say if those statistics aren't enough to convince you, maybe this will--a seat belt violation will cost you $127.50.
