Showers and thunderstorms are dumping more rain on Winneshiek County Monday afternoon. The National Weather Service says the storm will produce up to half an inch of additional rain.
However, Winneshiek County is not out of the woods yet. Thunderstorms are expected to form and become widespread after midnight, toward sunrise on Tuesday. Additional heavy rainfall with accumulations of 1-3" and possibly as much as 5" in isolated places is possible through Tuesday.
Creeks, streams and rivers would rise rapidly with heavy rainfall. Also, heavy rainfall would cause road closures, mudslides, flooded basements and flooded buildings.
But National Weather Service forecasters say there's a good chance the overnight thunderstorms may shift further south.
A change in the weather pattern is expected after Wednesday, with no heavy rainfall expected.
