The Decorah PTO's Spell-a-thon has raised $30,915.37 in donations to help fund special activities, events and unique programs in the Decorah School District.
72 percent of students in kindergarten through 6th grade in Decorah participated in the Spell-a-thon. Storme Barr raised the most pledges, $630.00, and was awarded a $100 bill from Decorah Bank & Trust. The students of Mrs. Wettach, Mrs. Lutkenhaus and Mrs. Nowack were awarded Pizza Parties from Happy Joe's, Pizza Ranch, and Mabe's Pizza for raising the most funds in each of their schools during the event.
Mara Wyatt, Connor Cook, and Kaia Neal were awarded gift certificates from Once Upon a Time Bookstore, Dragonfly Books and the Luther Bookshop for their participation in this year's event.
Of the nearly $31,000 raised through the Spell-a-thon, 5th and 6th grade classes raised over $6,000. They have raised an additional $19,000 in donations over the last six years.
Every child who took the Spellathon test received cheesesticks from the Winneshiek County Dairy Producers, which were delivered to the classrooms by the Winneshiek Couy Dairy Princess Mikayla Lien.
