Luther College announces 2013-2014 Center Stage events

Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash

Luther College has announced details of its 2013-2014 Center Stage Series, which will run from September 14th through April 4th.
 
Performances will range from classic theater to contemporary dance, with musical performances that will range from brass and string ensembles to traditional Arabic jazz.

Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash – September 14th
Rather than doing a straight-up Cash impersonation, a company of performers will perform such classics as "I Walk the Line," "Folsom Prison Blues" and "A Boy Named Sue."

Weiss Kaplan Newman Trio – September 27th
The piano trio's Center Stage program will highlight Luther's newly refurbished nine-foot Steinway piano with an all-Beethoven bill.

Tango Fire – October 15th
Ten dancers, a world-renowned singer and a brilliant quartet bring their fevered sounds and fiery dance to the stage.

Masters of the Fiddle: Natalie MacMaster & Donnell Leahy – November 1st
MacMaster and Leahy play fiddle-driven music, dance and song, combining the best of French, Celtic, bluegrass and even Cajun styles.

Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain – November 16th
Eight ukulele masters spread a spirit of wit, playfulness and camaraderie as they strum through a diverse repertoire that includes everything from Tchaikovsky to Nirvana to Otis Redding.

Simon Shaheen Ensemble – February 13th
Simon Shaheen is a virtuoso on the oud and violin whose music leaps from traditional Arabic sounds to jazz and Western classical styles.

Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 – February 21st
"Fahrenheit 451" is Ray Bradbury's dystopian tale of a bleak future where books are banned and knowledge is on the edge of extinction.

Boston Brass and Enso String Quartet – March 8th
Two acclaimed ensembles join forces to perform music inspired by "Romeo and Juliet" as well as pieces by Kabalevsky, Prokofiev, Elvis Costello and Leonard Bernstein.

River North Dance Chicago– March 14th
This dynamic, contemporary troupe will perform three pieces, including a new commission set to the music of American vocalist Eva Cassidy.

Pianist Philip Glass – April 4th
This influential composer will perform his most recent etudes for piano, as well as several of his classics.
