Decorah woman working on project to get books to prison inmates

Inmates in state prisons now have more books they can read while incarcerated—thanks to the work of a Decorah woman.

Carol Hasvold is a member of the Hannah Lee Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.  She is also the Iowa DAR Chair for Literacy Promotion.  As State Chair she has been working on a special project collecting and donating used books to inmate libraries in Iowa's state prisons.

Hasvold says people can support the project by donating good quality used books on topics such as nature, travel, history, biography, popular psychology, self-help, devotional works, and good adventure or family stories.  Activity directors at Iowa's seven correctional facilities say they have appreciated past book donations.  Anyone interested in participating in this effort can contact Hasvold at 563-379-3916.
