County supervisors approve 18-month moratorium on frac sand mining permits

The Winneshiek County Board on Monday unanimously approved a resolution imposing an 18-month moratorium on the issuance of any conditional use permit for frac sand mining in the county.

The resolution says the county board reserves the right to end the moratorium prior to the 18-month term, or to extend the moratorium if studies about frac sand mining legislation are not completed.
