Area river stages are beginning to fall

Winneshiek County officials remain watchful of the levels of area rivers, but the flooding risk has temporarily abated.

The latest river stage readers show the Turkey River at Spillville is at 8.32 feet, with 9.0 feet the flood stage.  The river stage has dropped 1.56 feet in last 6 hours.  The Upper Iowa River at Decorah is at 6.09 feet, which is well below the flood stage of 12.0 feet.  The river has dropped 0.15 feet in last 6 hours.
