County supervisors will be given sample resolutions next Monday for a frac sand moratorium

Posted: Tue, May 28, 2013 9:24 PM

Winneshiek County supervisors on Tuesday decided there was no need for them to hold a public hearing on the proposed moratorium on frac sand permits in Winneshiek County.

Instead the supervisors will ask County Attorney Andy Van der Maaten to draft two or three possible resolutions that would impose the frac sand moratorium.

Supervisors on Tuesday discussed--but did not decide--the length of time the moratorium should be in effect.  They also stated the moratorium should not affect existing mining operations in the county.

Supervisors will meet with Van der Maaten at 11:30 a.m. next Monday to discuss the moratorium resolutions.
