Former Decorah attorney faces criminal charges

Two criminal charges have been filed against former Decorah attorney David Strand.

A May 29th arraignment is scheduled for Strand on a charge of First Degree Theft and a charge of Commission of Specified Unlawful Activity.  Bond has been set at $50,000 in the case.

Court documents filed in the case accuse Strand of taking more than $10,000 from an attorney trust account that was set up for the Shiloh Deal Estate.  The documents also accused Strand of "unlawfully and willfully misappropriating property in his trust or care" during a period from July of 2009 through September of 2012.

Last September the Iowa Supreme Court suspended Strand's law license because he did not respond to a request to turn over certain records so the state could complete an audit of the lawyer's trust account.
