University of Iowa graduate students could be conducting a study of the issues relating to frac sand mining and their relevance to Winneshiek County.
Winneshiek Conservation Director Barb Schroeder says she has been in contact with University of Iowa officials already about having students help with a study of the financial impact of bike trails in Winneshiek County. University officials are encouraging Winneshiek County to apply to have the studies done. The county would only have to pay transportation costs, which would be around $1,000.
However, a study about frac sand mining could not be done until the 2014-2015 school year, so there is some question about the timing of a study.
