Calmar took the brunt of Winneshiek County storm damage

Damage in Winneshiek County from Sunday night's strong thunderstorms was concentrated in the Calmar area.

Highway 24 and Middle Calmar Road were both temporarily closed by fallen trees.  A downed power line in Calmar started a tree fire.  There were multiple power outages in Winneshiek County, with a transformer blowing in Calmar, cutting off power to the north side of the community.  There also was a report of vehicle damage in Calmar from falling tree limbs.  Some houses had siding or shingles ripped off and the ATV dealership on the north end of Calmar reported some damage

If you're driving west on Highway 9 on Monday, you should know that quite a bit of storm damage has been reported in Mitchell County.

Highway 9 east and west of Osage is closed due to flooding.  Highway 218 north of Osage isalso closed.  Many county roads in Mitchell County have flooded as well,

The Stacyville Fire Department reported receiving 6 to 7inches of rain in that community.  Sandbags were deployed along the Little Cedar River.

Another chance of severe weather is forecast for Monday evening.
