The City of Decorah has appointed Andy Nimrod to the position
of Parks and Recreation Director. Nimrod has been working for the department for the last 15 years as Recreation Superintendent.
Nimrod grew up in Decorah and received his BA in Health and Sports Management from Luther College. In his current job, Nimrod has been responsible for all youth and adult sports programs, special events, as well as athletic field care and maintenance for the City's many recreation activities. In addition to that role, Nimrod has been directly responsible for the cooperative partnership with the Decorah School District to expand and improve the tennis courts and has served in a vital leadership role for the C.R.E.W. after prom program for many years.
The search for a new director began with the announcement that long time director Rick Edwards was retiring in January 2013. A search team was appointed, made up of members of City Council, Park Board and city staff.
The appointment of Nimrod to the position needs to be confirmed Thursday night by the Park Board and next Monday night by the City Council. If those two groups approve the appointment, Nimrod will officially start in his new role with the city on Monday, May 27th.
