County Planning & Zoning Commission rejects rezoning of Bluffton campground

The Winneshiek County Planning & Zoning Commission has voted unanimously to reject a request from Chimney Rock Campground to rezone its property from agricultural to C-1 Highway Commercial.

The board took the action Tuesday night after hearing complaints from neighbors of the campground about noise, traffic and alcohol consumption. 

The campground owner had sought the zoning change to allow for construction of a store on the property.  But Planning & Zoning Commission member John Berlage, noting the store could sell beer and liquor, said, "Allowing more alcohol is just asking for more trouble."
