Decorah City Council members spent 45 minutes on Monday night straightening out some operational issues with Lindsay Erdman of Erdman Engineering.
City council member John Franzen had asked for the meeting. Franzen said sometimes he would like more information presented about engineering bills. Franzen raised the question of when a city council vote was needed to authorize engineering work.
Erdman explained that often there is work that must be done to explore different approaches to a project before the project can be bid, But he agreed that a more formal procedure might be welcome, since he often gets asked informally by city officials or city groups for a study of a problem.
City council member Gary Rustad said all issues should be brought before the city's Street Committee. Rustad complimented Erdman Engineering for the quality of its work and its long-standing relationship with the City of Decorah.
