Of the 18 spots sent on from this region to this week's state level competition of the National History Day, 10 were from St. Benedict's and six were from Decorah.
St. Benedict's students Jenna Galligan and Erica Bouska both received Creativity Awards at the statewide competition.
Students participating in the National History Day program present their work in one of five ways:, either as a paper, an exhibit, a performance, a documentary, or a web site.
St. Benedict's students participating at the event this week were Josephine Berlage- historical paper titled, "Penicillin: A Turning Point in Medical History"; Erica Bouska- individual exhibit titled "Ghandi Salt and Independence"; Blake Courtney and Logan Loney- group exhibit titled "Norman Borlaug: A Turning Point in World Hunger"; Everett Wegge- individual documentary titled "Watergate: The Scandal that Changed a Nation"; Kaitlyn Rooney- individual performance titled "Nellie Bly: A Turning Point in Mental Healthcare"; Brynne Valkosky- individual performance titled "Lewis Hine: Showing the World the Truth"; Leah Weis, Emma Rooney, and Allison Groux- group performance titled "1993 Shoots Into History"; Abigail Touissaint- individual website titled "The Big Impact of Little Boy: Turning World War II Around"; Jenna Galligan- individual website titled "Sesame Street: A Turning Point at the Intersection of Entertainment and Education"; Morgan Minear and Marissa Weis- group website titled "Jonas Salk: The Turning Points of the First Polio Vaccine".
