The grounds of the North Winneshiek School will look different in the future, thanks to the efforts of students and volunteers on Monday.
Around 50 trees were delivered to the school Monday morning, purchased from Ladybug Landscapes in Decorah through an Iowa DNR grant. Then after lunch, students headed outside to dig holes, move trees and plant them in the ground.
Workers from Winneshiek County Conservation and Green Iowa Americorps Decorah were on hand to help, as was Laura Wagner from DNR Trees for Kids and State Farm Insurance's Paul and Lisa Hudson, who gave the students water and snacks after the kids finished planting.
While North Wineshiek School had three inches of snow on Thursday, the weather was sunny with temperatures in the 70s during Monday's tree planting.
