Decorah City Council member Julie Fischer resigns

The Decorah City Council now has a vacancy.

Second Ward city council member Julie Fischer has resigned her seat because she moved out of the district.  Monday night she thanked city officials for the help they have given her during her term on the city council--an experience she said "increased my faith in city government."

The vacancy leaves the remaining city council members with two possible ways to fill the vacancy.  They can appoint someone to fill the unexpired portion of Fischer's term--although the public can petition the city council for a special election--or the city council can order a special election to be held within 90 days.
