This is Soil & Water Conservation Week

This is Iowa Soil and Water Conservation Week.

A variety of events are planned statewide to recognize the conservation practices used in Iowa and to bring attention to the ongoing work by farmers, landowners andurban residents to protect the state's soil and water resources.

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad will sign a proclamation Monday recognizing Iowa Soil and Water Conservation Week.

Iowa is a national leader in the implementation ofwater quality and watershed projects, soil conservation and bufferprograms.  Iowa currently leads the nation in the continuous conservationreserve program buffer initiative with more than 600,000 acres.  Iowa alsohas more than 60 active watershed and water quality projects across the state.This year is also the 40th anniversary of Cost Share, used on ourlandscape for terraces, waterways, erosion control structures and others.
