Northeast Iowa Community College is holding a grand opening Thursday afternoon of its recently renovated Wilder Business Center at the Calmar campus. The event will run from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., with an official ribbon cutting with NICC officials, business and industry leaders and local, regional and state dignitaries scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
The Wilder Business Center's completion concludes the last major construction project coordinated by NICC that is directly funded, in part, through the $35 million bond levy, which won passage by voters in December 2007.
NICC has invited more than 200 local and state leaders to celebrate the official opening. Iowa Governor Terry Branstad will be among those attending the event.
NICC completed the remodeling and repurposing of the Wilder Business Center in January. The facility houses the NICC Business and Community Solutions staff as well as the NICC Foundation, Marketing, Distance Learning, Computer Information Services and Central Printing offices. All event attendees are invited to tour the new conference facility, view program demonstrations, experience state-of-the-art technology services and connect with event planning specialists.
The new center offers more than 8000 square feet of dedicated meeting space, an auditorium with seating for 200 and a computer lab with 17 computers and Internet access. Other features include wireless Internet access and laptop connections, built-in multimedia and sound systems, and catering services for local employers and organizations that require a dynamic new meeting place to discuss business. State-of-the-art video conferencing technology also allows guests to meet in multiple locations and communicate at greater distances.
