Decorah Public Library, in partnership with Seed Saver's Exchange, is developing a seed library.
Donated seeds in three categories will be available, free of charge, for "borrowing" by anyone visiting the library. Participating in the Seed "Lending" Library (SLL) means that growers are making a commitment to save some seeds from their harvest and return them to the seed library.
To kick start the project Seed Saver's Exchange has donated seeds from their preservation collection that are rare or unique, and not usually available to the general public. The library is also now accepting seeds from others in Winneshiek County who have open-pollinated varieties to share. Although the focus is primarily on vegetables, donations of flower and herb seeds are appreciated as well.
